Comment from Rachel Meadows

I do not agree with the proposal to change gig work to employee status. The entire reason for leaving my previous employment and joining the gig force was for the freedom that self-employment allows. I work on my own schedule and make far more money than I ever did working for an hourly rate or salary. I have the luxury of being able to make money when I need to and not because I have to. I have the ability to stop and care for my children if I need to. With discipline and budgeting, I am able to afford my own “benefits” on my own terms. Becoming an employee will strip us of every benefit of gig work and will cause a large number of those workers to struggle fruitlessly for companies that do not compensate or care for their employees appropriately. Uber and Lyft have taken great measures to ensure that we are compensated well and anyone complaining about “unfair” practices simply does not understand how the company works or how to manage their own finances appropriately.
