Comment from James McMurry
I’m the guy that gave the first Uber ride in the city of Portland, Oregon. At the time, driving on the Uber and Lyft platforms supplemented my income from a full-time job. I am now retired. I depend on the income I receive to meet my financial obligations. Not having a regular schedule anymore, it is essential that my income is from something that provides complete flexibility in hours. That enables me to work around doctors appointments and other family obligations. Please allow Uber and Lyft to continue as is rather than requiring them to be an employer.
