Comment from Raymond Dudley

While many people drive for Uber, Lyft and other shared ride companies as independent contractors on a full-time basis, more do so on a part-time basis. I personally have driven for both Uber and Lyft while I hunted for my next job and while I grew my own business. To me, it is extremely important to maintain that independent contractor status because it gives me the flexibility to work when and for however long I want so that I can work around my other work efforts. I have also maintained status with both Uber and Lyft so that if one has a network problem with their driver’s app, I can switch to the other and make money, something I could not do were I employed by either. If you force a change in status, drivers will be forced to work on set shifts and in assigned areas. I don’t want that to happen.
